Project Overview

About the Project

The Meadowlands Parkway Bridge connects an industrial and commercial area in Secaucus to the New Jersey Turnpike, Frank R. Lautenberg NJ TRANSIT Station and State Route 3. This important arterial roadway is highly trafficked.

This project will study replacing or rehabilitating the four-lane, five-span bridge, which was built in 1973 and has a steel multi-girder superstructure supporting a concrete deck. The bridge, which is 316 feet long, carries traffic over Norfolk Southern rail lines, Secaucus Road and a tributary to the Hackensack River. The bridge has an overall condition rating of Fair. The Town of Secaucus in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Transportation has undertaken more than $3 million in temporary structural repairs to the bridge.

Communication with the local officials, stakeholders, road users and community will be necessary to advise on the need of the project and the impacts that they may encounter on this heavily used roadway. Public awareness of the rehabilitation or replacement of the structure is critical since construction may involve significant detours and delays for the traveling public.

Local Capital Project Delivery Program (LCPD)

The LCD Study is the first phase for federally funded transportation improvement projects. The LCPD Program provides funding to NJTPA sub regions—the 15 city and county members of the NJTPA—to prepare proposed transportation projects for eventual construction with federal funding.

This preparation involves completing the multi-step Capital Project Delivery Process developed by NJDOT. This process is designed to streamline project development and provide a common and consistent framework for federally funded projects at the local, regional and state level.
